Needing some ideas to make some quick cash?
Maybe you’re trying to beef up your emergency fund or pay off some debt. Or you need to save up for some new clothes or that vacation you’ve been wanting to take. We’ve all been there. So here are a few ideas to get some more cash in your pocket:
1. Have a garage sale or an online consignment sale (using the OfferUp or letgo apps)
A garage sale can be a great way to make some extra cash depending on the area you live in. The area we lived in Kansas was great for this. People would be lined up waiting to for us to open the garage door. They would come in droves until most everything was gone and we usually only had to be open for part of a day. That’s my kind of sale! When we moved to Nebraska we needed to plan on being open a couple of days and feel good to get rid of half our stuff. Now we live in Oklahoma and you have to have a permit to even have a garage sale, which costs money, and then they charge you taxes on the money you make from the sale. Not as profitable. This is where I would recommend using Facebook Marketplace (although the marketing ads on Marketplace are getting ridiculous!) or downloading the OfferUp or letgo app to sell your stuff.
2. Sell your gold trinkets
Have an old gold chain you don’t wear anymore or some gold earrings an old flame gave you? There are lots of places that buy gold and you can get a good deal for something that’s just been stuck in your jewelry drawer for years. When I was a teenager I had to have a crown put on my tooth and they used gold. Recently I had to have it replaced and the dentist gave it to me in a sealed baggie and told me to sell it. I got $46 out of that little crown!
3. Take on a side job
Offer babysitting or dog walking services. Offer to house sit for a friend or neighbor who’s leaving town for a few days. We just paid someone $10/day to come by and feed our dog and water our garden while we were on vacation! Clean houses-there are a lot of people looking for affordable housekeeping. Check out the local rates and price yourself a little below to be marketable. Are you handy? Offer your services to change the oil and filter on someone’s car or do some repairs around their house. Mow some lawns or do some landscaping. The sky is the limit!
4. Turn your hobby into money
Is there something you enjoy doing or are really talented at that others would pay for? When I stayed home with my kids I painted furniture on the side for extra cash. When people found out they hired me to redo their own furniture. My husband is good at woodworking. He’s sold tables and décor to bring in extra money. Do you like to shop? I used to scour thrift shops or clearance sections (Hobby Lobby’s is a great example!) and resell the items on eBay or Facebook Marketplace, etc. for profit. Maybe you like crafting and would do well at a fair or with an Etsy shop. I have a friend who loves to sew and makes the cutest children’s clothes, which is coming back in demand believe it or not!
There are a lot of options out there to make some extra money in a short amount of time. I hope this post has helped get your creative juices flowing to come up with yours!
