Who loves some homemade Monkey Bread?!
Christmas is less than a week away! We’ve finished all of our shopping and wrapped most of the gifts which is pretty amazing because I’m usually last minute on the wrapping! I so look forward to Christmas morning with our kids as they rush downstairs in anticipation of opening all the presents they’ve been busy sorting and shaking! My husband makes coffee and I preheat the oven to bake this yummy treat we have each year – Monkey Bread!
In my family, it was called Bubble Bread, and my mom made it for us at Christmas when I was growing up. My husband’s mom made it for their family as well and they called it Monkey Bread, which is what I’ve heard it referred to more often. But no matter what you call it, it is DELICIOUS and something we look forward to each year!
And it’s nice because you prepare it the night before and let it rise overnight so all you have to do in the morning is pop it in the oven! We let it bake while we sit down together to read the Christmas story!
It’s really easy to make and goes together fast. You start by melting a stick of butter and combining it with the brown sugar. Spread this in the bottom of a 9×13 dish.
Next you melt the other stick of butter. In a separate bowl you combine the sugar and cinnamon. Pull out your frozen rolls (we use the Rhodes brand of frozen dinner rolls) and one at time dip them in the butter and then coat them in the sugar/cinnamon mix.
Then you’ll place the roll in the pan on top of the brown sugar mix. In my pan, I’m able to do four rolls across and six rolls down for a total of 24.
Once you’re finished, cover the rolls to rise overnight.
The next morning you should have giant cinnamon rolls in your pan! You just preheat the oven to 350 and bake for about 20 minutes or until they’re no longer doughy in the center! Put a cookie sheet (a little larger than your pan) on top of the rolls and flip it over. Pull the pan off and TA DA!! Yummy bread glazed with brown sugar goodness!

Christmas Morning Monkey Bread
- 2 sticks butter
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 pkg. Rhodes Dinner Rolls
- Melt a stick of butter and combine with brown sugar. Pour into 9x13 dish. Melt the second stick of butter. In a separate bowl mix the white sugar and cinnamon. Dip each frozen roll into the butter, then coat with cinnamon/sugar mix. Place rolls in dish on top of brown sugar mix. Let rise overnight.
Preheat oven to 350. Bake rolls for 20 minutes or until done in the center. Place cookie sheet on top of rolls and flip pan over. Rolls will be drizzled in brown sugar sauce. Enjoy!
This recipe is made the night before so the rolls can rise overnight.
