I am having a blast decorating our new home this year! We’re still working on a few details and I plan to do a Christmas tour post soon! We went “shopping” this weekend in the storage building at my in-laws house and found lots of treasures that we’ll be adding throughout the house this week! But today I’d like to share our Christmas tablescape!

Christmas Tablescape
Contents
I had never really done tablescapes before entering the blogging and Instagram world. Sure, I’d put out a decoration or a runner maybe. But I’ve enjoyed seeing how others decorated their tables and I’m finding it’s very fun to spruce up our table with centerpieces and dinnerware that usually stays hidden in the hutch! Plus for this year’s theme, I already had most of the décor. I only had to spend $5 at Dollar Tree to finish it off.
The dining room is just about finished and I’m so excited about how it’s coming together! We just purchased a buffet for a steal on Facebook Marketplace and it will sit under the mirror. I’ll be sharing that process when we’re done refinishing it! UPDATE: See buffet makeover HERE. Other than that we’ll add a chandelier and possibly a rug down the road and it’ll be done. It’s been a labor of love, but it’s going to look amazing!
A Layered Look
So back to the tablescape! I started with the runner that was gifted to me by a sweet friend a few years ago. I love the traditional reds and greens at Christmas plus this runner is long enough to go the full length of our table so it works great. Then I added our advent wreath in the center. You can read about that project here.
Next, I placed our two decorative reindeer on either side of the wreath. We had previously used the reindeer to decorate our mantle, but our new mantle is not as wide and they didn’t fit so they found a new home on the table! I took two candles that were sitting on our bookshelves and moved them to the table on either side of the reindeer.
The place settings came next and I purchased two red felt ornament decorations to serve as chargers. I put them on either end of the table. I only bought two because I felt like doing one at each place would be overkill since they’re so large. Ya know what they say, less is more!
Then I placed the large plate in each setting and layered it with a green napkin and a dessert plate. On each end, I placed a small silver Christmas tree on the dessert plates. I finished off the look with the matching wine glasses.
The Outcome
Here’s what I purchased from Dollar Tree to accomplish this Christmas tablescape:
2 Red Felt Ornament Decorations
2 Miniature Silver Christmas Trees
Package of Green Napkins
Total: $5
If you’re on a budget, see if you can repurpose, rearrange, or reuse something you already have. I’ve seen people spray paint branches from their trees to use for décor. There are many creative ways to get the look you want without spending tons of money. In my Christmas tour post, I’ll show you how I added a little flair to my welcome sign to give it a festive look for the holidays!
