I wanted to share these melt-in-your-mouth Cinnamon Roll Sugar Cookies I came across a couple of months ago on the blog I Heart Naptime. Jamielyn is an author and food and lifestyle blogger and I love her site. Be sure to head over there and check her out!
For the Love of Cinnamon
I LOVE cinnamon. Anything cinnamon. It may be tied with chocolate. Maybe. My favorite coffee creamer? Cinnamon Vanilla. It’s like Christmas in a cup. My favorite Starbucks drink? Iced cinnamon almond milk macchiato. My favorite pastry? Cinnamon rolls by far.
So I knew I HAD to try this recipe!
Cinnamon roll sugar cookies combine cinnamon rolls and sugar cookies in a magical way. The cream cheese frosting dusted with cinnamon is to die for!
I made them for my family and my kiddos loved helping. I like to get them involved any time I can when I’m cooking or baking. I want to know they can feed themselves something besides boxed macaroni and cheese when they leave the nest someday!
The recipe made a lot so I took some to work to share. They gushed over them and wanted the recipe to share with their families, too!
Cinnamon Roll Sugar Cookies
The dough is like a typical sugar cookie dough with cinnamon added in, which I love because you guessed it, I’m a huge fan of cinnamon! The dough needs to chill for 30 minutes before it’s ready to go.
After rolling the dough into 1″ balls and placing them on a greased baking sheet, Jamielyn recommending flattening the cookies to 1/2″ using the bottom of a glass. This made the cookies easier to frost.
They bake at 375 degrees for 7-9 minutes. While they’re cooling you can make the yummy frosting!
The frosting calls for softened cream cheese and butter. Cream these together slowly adding in the powdered sugar. Add in the vanilla and then add in the milk until you have your desired consistency.
Spread or pipe the frosting onto the cooled cookies and then it’s time for my favorite part! Sprinkle them with more cinnamon!
