Good Mooorning!! Happy first day of October! I love this month! My oldest was born this month and then there’s fall weather and Halloween-just so many great things about October!
I’m so excited to share this post with you today! Last month we went to visit some of our friends (more like family!) and it had been a really long time since we’d seen them. We had a great time! They took us to Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead in Overland Park, KS and wow! Such a neat place. Definitely worth the visit if you’re in the area!
But while we were there I saw this sign post and I thought it was so cute. Then I got to thinking about how I could recreate it to use as décor on my porch or in the house.
The wheels started turning and I remembered this stack of old wood that was left in our backyard by the previous owners. I snapped a picture for future reference and logged it away for later. A couple of weekends ago I saw that woodpile in the backyard and remembered that signpost. My hubby helped me pull out the pieces we needed to make it and on Saturday we got busy!
We used a 4×4 post for the main part, then we attached 2×4’s on either side so it looked like a cross.
I wanted it to be rustic but cute so I purchased these corbels at Hobby Lobby to add a decorative touch.
We attached the corbels with wood glue. Then we attached an adorable vintage faceplate and doorknob that I had purchased a while back at our local antique shop. It adds so much character!
Next, we did the signs. I wanted to be able to customize the signs for different occasions. First I sanded down each board to make it smooth. I taped off a border so it would look like a frame and then I painted the inside box with chalkboard paint so I can erase them and write something new when needed.
After the signs were dry, we used eyelet screws and chains to attach each sign to the other and then to either side of the post.
Tada! Here she is all done!
Isn’t it cute? I don’t mind that you can see the nails and screws and the signs aren’t even. It wasn’t meant to be perfect and it definitely adds to the rustic charm! I love that it can be used to decorate for fall or Christmas, weddings or parties! So many options!
I’m thrilled with how this fun DIY turned out! I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
As always, I appreciate it so much when you take time out of your busy day to stop by and read my posts! I hope you have a great day and we’ll see you soon!
