I love scanning Pinterest for fall decorating ideas for outside! I love the images of the different varieties of pumpkins cascading down the stairs or layered on a bale of hay with corn stalks and mums.
Every time the season rolls around I’m always looking for fall front porch decorating ideas on a budget. I want it to look festive, but I don’t want to spend a fortune.
We’ve tried growing pumpkins so that we could save money on purchasing them, but it’s never worked out.

Where to Find the Best Deals on Pumpkins
So this year I did some research on where to find the best deals on pumpkins. Trader Joe’s and Aldi ended up being the winners by far.
If you’re looking for large traditional orange pumpkins, Aldi is your place. At $3.99 each, They have a great selection and you can’t beat that price!
Trader Joe’s also came in at $3.99 for the traditional orange pumpkins, but they’re a little smaller than the pumpkins at Aldi. They also had more varieties like Tiger Stripe and Princess. The specialty pumpkins were $6.99
We ended up purchasing all of our pumpkins at Trader Joe’s. We chose three orange and two Tiger Stripe. We spent about $26 for five nice-sized pumpkins, not bad at all.
Best Deals on Fall Mums
Mums are a staple for farmhouse fall porch decor and can also be pricey depending on where you go. After checking our local nurseries and hardware stores, it was Aldi for the win again.
Aldi had medium sized fall mums for $3.98. They offered them in orange, red, and yellow. I grabbed two red and an orange and spent $12.
TIP: It’s always tempting to buy the mums that have already bloomed and look beautiful. But if you want them to last for any amount of time, make sure you choose mums whose buds are still tightly closed. This way you’ll be able to enjoy them longer through the fall season.
Cornstalks and Hay Bales
While checking out fall decorating ideas for outside I decided I really wanted corn stalks and a hay bale as part of my farmhouse fall porch decor.
I was able to find both at Lowe’s. The cornstalk was $12 and the hay bale was $6, bringing the total to $18.
Vintage Crocks and Wood Signs
The best way to find fall front porch decorating ideas on a budget is to shop what you already have and see what can be used to complement your theme.
To fill out my farmhouse fall porch decor, I used three of my vintage crocks and two wood signs I made last year.

Farmhouse Fall Porch Decor
Now that I had all my supplies, it was time to decorate! I started by tying the cornstalk to our pillar.
I placed the hay bale under my DIY modern address sign. Then I laid a sign on top and leaned the other one against the front.
I watered the mums and placed them in my crocks. I put one crock on the hay bale and two side-by-side next to the hay bale.
Lastly, I added in our pumpkins. I placed an orange pumpkin and tiger stripe on the top of the hay bale with the “autumn” sign and fall mum. Then I placed the other tiger stripe next to the “fall sweet fall” sign.
I layered the last two orange pumpkins next to the other mums and the cornstalk. I kept adjusting and looking at it all together until I had it just how I wanted it.
I love how our fall farmhouse porch turned out! It’s simple but pretty. And the best part is that it only cost around $60 for everything! That’s what I call budget-friendly!
