Farmhouse paint colors…which gray is best?
Other than white, gray is by far the most popular paint color used in farmhouse-style homes. But there are SO many choices.
If you’ve decided on gray for your interior, how do you choose the best shade of gray for your home?
There are several things to consider such as the lighting in your home, the color of your trim and baseboards, and even which direction your home faces.
Before you Decide: Paint Samples vs Peel and Stick
Before you decide on a color you should try several samples to make sure the color looks the way you want it to in your space.
You can do this two ways.
First, you can purchase small paint samples from the hardware store in several different colors and paint a large square of each paint sample on your walls. Make sure you give each sample two coats of paint for the best result.
Another option is to purchase peel and stick paint samples from somewhere like Samplize. They carry the most popular shades from Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, Home Depot, and more!
If you’re a fan of the Magnolia Home paint line, you can purchase peel and stick samples from there, as well.
Peel and stick paint samples are great because you get a feel for how the shade will look in your home without the mess. And they’re reusable so you can try them out in different spaces.

Popular Greige Paints
The term “greige” is simply a cross between “gray” and “beige”. There are several greige paint colors to choose from across the different lines of paint.
Depending on the shade, there may be more or less of either color in the combination. More gray creates a cooler tone where more beige creates a warmer tone.
Here are some of the most popular “greige” shades for farmhouse paint colors trending now:
Wish by Benjamin Moore
Benjamin Moore’s Wish AF-680 is part of the Affinity Color Collection. BM Wish is a neutral gray considered to be more of greige due to the yellow undertones.
A lighter shade of gray with a warm feel to it, BM Wish is really perfect for any space, including a living room or bedroom to give a cozy feel!
If you don’t live close to a retailer who carries the Benjamin Moore line, you can always provide the hex code. If it’s in their system, they can mix the color in another brand of paint. The hex color code for BM Wish is #D0C9C1.
Mindful Gray by Sherwin Williams
Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray SW-7016 is slightly darker than Benjamin Moore’s Wish. It is said to be a nearly perfect combination with equal parts gray and beige.

FARMHOUSE PAINT COLORS…WHICH GRAY IS BEST?
As you’ve seen, the color gray can take on many shades and look very different depending on the undertones.
The perfect shade for your farmhouse paint colors will also depend on your preference of undertones. Are you drawn more to a beige gray or “greige”? Or do you prefer the cooler blue-gray tones? Maybe you live close to the water and desire a coastal feel or perhaps you just want that true gray feel.
When choosing gray for your home, make sure you get samples and try the colors in different spaces, at different times during the day, and in different lighting to get the full feel for what the color will look like in your home.
