ORC Week 4
Week 5 was canceled to pause and reflect on the state of our nation and to learn from our brothers and sisters in the black community.
Quoting what my friend Haleigh over at Sweet Sequels said, racism is a heart issue. If you’ve been following for a while you know that I’m a Christ-follower and believe that He is the answer to ALL of our problems. After all, God created the different races, to begin with!
“The best way to fend off racism is to follow Jesus, let Him reside in your heart, and share His Good News with the world…read books by diverse authors…teach your children to love God and love others. Learn from the experiences of those around you.”
Haleigh DeRocher, Sweet Sequels
I am praying for our nation, our leaders, the great police officers who are getting lumped in with the few bad ones, and my brothers and sisters in the black community who are hurting. “…let us not love in word and speech, but with actions and truth.” -1 John 3:18
Living Room Decor
So this week we focused on living room decor! We really didn’t have to spend much money, which is always a positive in my book! I’m going to take you on a tour around the room!
Hutch
This hutch is built-in and spans the dining room and living room so I decided to include it in this post. It was in sore need of an update when we moved in and you can check out that before and after post here.

It was already decorated before we started the ORC and I’ve written a post on tips for styling your hutch which you can find here.
Tobacco Baskets
These tobacco baskets were in my dining room, but I recently added some new decor in there which enabled me to move the baskets into the living room.

Since I’m using yellow as an accent color, I attached some yellow florals that I purchased for half off at Hobby Lobby to add interest!
Blanket Ladder
My hubby built this blanket ladder for $11 last year! You can check out the tutorial here! It originally sat on the wall the baskets are on now, but with the new furniture, it blocked the door so we moved it to the other side.

Catch-All Basket
We added the basket under the ladder for our kiddos to toss their shoes, etc. in when they walk in the back door. It’s been really handy!
Rug
I had a different rug in front of the back door, but once the new furniture arrived, it was a little too big for the space.
I ended up just moving the rug I had in front of our coffee bar to the back door and the other rug to our kitchen under the sink. It worked out perfectly!
Curtains
We had already purchased the curtains before the ORC but I wanted to include them again here in case there were questions! They were meant to be purely decorative so I hung them about 6″ above the window trim on an 18″ black rod with hooks.

SHOP MY WINDOW TREATMENTS
I ordered them long (96″) and thought about hemming them, but I really liked how they pooled at the end so I left them! We will also be adding shades to the windows, but that will be later.
Indoor Plants
Do you use indoor plants in your living room decor? I have really gotten into indoor plants! I love the color and texture they add and really enjoy taking care of them.
I already had this Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree that I purchased on a whim at Lowe’s, where I also found the basket it sits in.

The Meyer’s Lemon Bush was a gift from my husband for Mother’s Day and it’s been so fun to watch the bloom turn into little lemons that will continue to mature over the next several months. The blue ceramic planter goes perfectly with our color scheme!
My hubby just purchased this Gardenia Tree for me on a recent date night. Gardenias were the flowers that graced my bouquet when we got married so it’s a special reminder of our wedding day! I’m really hoping I can keep it alive, they’re really picky plants!

Farmhouse Window Coat Rack
I shared this DIY back in week 4, but I didn’t have it on the wall yet! Here it is the before and after! Eric also made a frame to go over the ugly HVAC vent that is no longer needed since we have the wall unit now.
We looked for paneling to just replace that section but it was actually really hard to come by! We didn’t find any to match so we went this route instead.
Throw Pillows and Blanket
You get a little sneak peek of our new furniture in this pic! The sofas came with throw pillows but they didn’t match our color scheme so I purchased new covers and used the filling from the sofa pillows to fill them!

I found the dark blue pillow covers at Hobby Lobby and they were on sale for half off so I got them for $10 each! I already had the larger light blue pillows, which I found on clearance for $10 each at Kirkland’s.
I found the yellow throw at Marshall’s on clearance for $15! The color matched perfectly with our new area rug!

And that wraps up our living room decor tour! I hope you enjoyed seeing how this room has progressed over the weeks!
Two of our new lights arrived this week and two more are on the way so I’ll be sharing all about living room lighting next week! Be sure to subscribe to follow along! (You get a really cool freebie when you do!)
