Do you ever get something that you intend to fix up and then get it home, set it aside and forget about it? This jewelry case was one of those projects!
Last month I was invited to join a fun group of women for their Thrift Store Challenge. The challenge is to take an affordable thrift store find and use it somewhere in your home decor.
I had so much fun searching and ended up with these cordials that I turned into candle holders. I was delighted to be invited back for the challenge again this month. It was the perfect opportunity to finally get around to giving this thrifted jewelry case a makeover!
Jewelry Case Makeover
Contents
I started by giving the jewelry case a good wipe down. I removed the glass and set it aside. I also removed the drawer and decorative piece that separates the drawer from the upper storage.
For this project, I decided to use Valspar’s chalk paint in “Her Dainties.” That name always makes me laugh. Anyhoo, it’s a creamy off-white color that was just right for this jewelry case. I gave it two coats, allowing it to dry in-between coats. I painted right over the pulls instead of taking them off.
After both coats, I allowed it to dry overnight.
Farmhouse Feel
I really wanted the case to have a farmhouse feel, so I replaced the glass with chicken wire. My hubby had used some for a project outside so he cut me off a piece from the excess and I hot glued it in where the glass used to be.
I lightly distressed the edges of the jewelry case and the pulls, as well. Then it was just a matter of putting all the pieces back together.
And there you have it!
It was an easy and pretty update to this outdated case! I’ll probably still add a coat of wax to protect the finish and then it’ll be ready to go.
I can’t wait for you to see what the rest of this group of talented ladies came up with! Check out their thrift finds below!
