Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1/4 cup butter softened
  • 1 stick cold butter cut into pieces
  • 2 tbsp water or milk


  1. Preheat oven to 425. 

    In a large bowl, mix together flour and sugar. 

    Make a well in the middle of the flour and add buttermilk, egg, softened butter and water. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

    Add cold pieces of butter and mix a few more times until combined. 

    Grease solid surface and roll dough out to 1 1/2" thickness. Using biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits and place on greased cookie sheet. 

    Bake for 12-15 minutes. 

    Serve warm with butter.
